New York real estate + beyond Founder Sells With Bond

NEW YORK — How does the founder of a website dedicated to home sales by owner sell his own condo?

He hires a broker.

Specifically, it was my Bond New York colleague Jesse Buckler, a fellow real estate salesperson at the city’s largest privately owned firm.

Colby Sambrotto, who helped start and run, a website that purports to save homeowners money by helping them bypass experienced, knowledgeable agents, spent six months trying to sell his 2,000-square-foot Chelsea apartment — to no avail.

After getting professional help, the sale closed last week for $150,000 above the original asking price. That means Sambrotto cleared $21,000 more in profit, even after paying the full 6 percent broker’s fee.

“At first he wouldn’t let me increase the price,” Buckler said in a Wall Street Journal article. “I told him I know what I am doing — the market is picking up.”

It pays to go with a pro.
